Supplies for the Pumkin

  • size 4 yarn ( I didn’t use more than one skein)
  • US 9 circular needles
  • US 9 double pointed needles
  • 4 stitch markers

Supplies for the Stem

  • brown yarn (size does not matter)
  • a short stick thick enough for your stem (I got one from my backyard, it does not have to be straight)
  • glue gun
  • tapestry needle
  • Poly- Fil pillow filler

How to Make the Pumpkin

Cast on 9 stitches on the double pointed needles. Connect the ends to knit in the round. put a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the row.

Row 1: k2, sm, k1, sm, k3, sm, k1, sm, k1.

Row 2: k to first marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to next marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to next marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to end of row.

Row 3: k the whole row, slipping all markers and knitting the back of all the yo stitiches from the row before.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until it is the size that you want it to be (it will be half of the pumpkin). Switch to circular needles if neccesary.

Row 4: k to 2 stitches before the first marker, k2tog, sm, k1, sm, k2tog, k to 2 stitches before next marker, k2tog, sm, k1, sm, k2tog, k to two stitches before next marker, k2tog, sm, k1, sm, k2tog, k to end of row.

Row 5: k, slipping all markers.

Repeat rows 4 and 5 until there are 12 stitches left on the needles. switch back to double pointed needles when neccesary.

String the remaining stitches together with a tapestry needle and pulloff the needles, then leave a long amount of yarn at the end and use the needle to pull the string through to the hole at the top.

How to assemble the pumpkin

  1. Stuff the pumpkin with the pillow stuffing.

2. Sew up the other and pull the string from the other side so it becomes a bit smashed looking. Then tie the two strings together and weave in the ends.

3. Take about 2-4 feet of brown yarn depending on the size of the pumpkin. tightly divide the pumpkin in half, then two more times to make 6 sections. Make sure it is tight, then tie it securely at the bottom so it stays in place.

How to make the Stem

  1. get out the supplies listed above for the stem and heat up the glue gun.

2. put some of the hot glue at the end of the stick, then wrap a good amount of string around the bottom so it looks thick.

3. put some hot glue in the middle of the pumpkin and glue the stem on.

4. put more hot glue on the edge of the stick and the wrap the string around the stem. Put some more hot glue at the top and then cover up the top of the stick.
