Slouchy Seed Stich Hat Knitting Pattern

Slouchy hats are in style and can be worn with many outfits. I have several that I wear and I love them. This pattern is also very versatile; many different kinds of yarn could be used to make this hat.

Knitting is a fun activity that can keep your hands busy. In the situation we are in at the moment (the coronavirus), knitting can be something that you do during your extra time at home. If you are just getting into knitting, there are tons of videos out there to get you started!

I made a bunch of these hats to sell and I recieved many complements on them. The pattern is simple, but still looks like many of the hats you would see in a store.

Materials

  • US size 9 circular knitting needles
  • US size 9 double pointed knitting needles
  • size 4 or 5 yarn (I used Red Heart® Super Saver®, but you could use any yarn in the sizes mentioned)
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • Faux Fur pom pom, or make your own with remaining yarn.

Finished Size

8.5 inches tall (without pompom) by 8 inches wide (middle of hat, not ribbing).

Gauge

12 rows=2inches tall

Abbreviations

  • k=knit
  • p=purl
  • k3tog=knit three together
  • k1fb=knit one front and back. This means you knit the stitch and leave in on the needle, then you bring the needle to the back and knit the stitch again from the back. You can look up a video if you need more explanation.

Pattern

Cast on 52 stiches.

Put a stitch marker to mark the start of the row.

Row 1: k2, p2* repeat until the end of the row.

Repeat row 1 until ribbing measures 2 inches.

Row 2: k1, p1* until 1 stitch remains, then k1fb.

Row 3: p1, k1* repeat till end of row.

Repeat rows 2-3 until the hat measures 8 inches.

Row 4: k3tog, p1* repeat until the end of row.

Row 5: p1, k1* repeat until end of row.

Repeat rows 4-5 until 6 stitches remain on the needles.

Cut the yarn and thread the yarn through each of the stiches and then pull tight and take off the needles.

Fasten the pompom to the top of the hat by pulling the strings on the pompom through to the back of the hat, then tightly tie in a knot so it is secure and does not wobble.

Weave in all ends.
