Tassel Bookmarks

I love reading, and these bookmarks are fun to make and can last a long time too. Having one of these cute bookmarks will make you want to pick up a book and read even more!

Making a bookmark is an enjoyable activity to do on your own, with friends, or with kids. They also make great gifts for friends and family.

You can get creative making up your own designs and colors for your bookmark. Get out those craft supplies and follow this step-by-step tutorial to make your own stylish bookmark!

How to make the bookmark

Materials:

  • colored paper, or patterened scrapbook paper
  • decoupage (I used glossy Mod Podge)
  • hole punch
  • foam paintbrush
  • paper cutter
  • tag board
  • scissors
  • string
  • one bead
  • colored pencils, pens, or markers

How to make the paper part of the bookmark

The following materials will be used for this part:

1. Cut the tag board with the paper cutter so it measures 6 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. Cut the colored paper or scrapbook paper so it measures 6 5/8 x 2 1/8 in.

2. Draw whatever design you want on the bookmark with colored pens, pencils, or markers.

3. using the foam paintbrush, paint the decopage on the back of the colored paper and then stick it to the tag board.

4. paint a thin layer of the decoupage on the back of the tag board side of the bookmark and then let dry.

5. paint the decopage on the front of the bookmark and let dry.

6. hole punch the top middle of the bookmark.

How to make the tassle for the bookmark

The following materials are needed for this part:

1.Cut a piece of the embroidery thread so it is 60 inches long.

2. Cut the piece of tag board so it measures 2×2 in.

3. Cut a small slit at the top of the tag board like this:

4. Tie a knot around the piece of tag board with the embroidery thread.

5. Wrap the thread around the piece of tag board.

6. Tie another piece of the thread around the open section of the tag board and then cut the two ends so they are the same length as the other wrapped threads. Next, thread a piece of the string, 11 inches in length, through the top of the strings.

7. Make sure the two ends at the top are the same length, then tie them together in a knot at the bottom.

8. Slide the tassel off the tag board.

9. Slide the scissors through the loops of thread at the end, then cut.

10. Thread a bead through the two strings, then tie the two threads together at the end of the bead.

11. Tie the ends of the thread together then cut the ends.

12. Thread the tassel through the hole in the bookmark.

13. Thread the tassle through the loop and pull tight.

Now you’ve finished!
